Stoke Gabriel Primary School

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is the responsibility of us all.

Keeping our children safe

At Stoke Gabriel Primary School we strongly recognise the need for vigilant awareness of safeguarding issues. All staff have received appropriate training and induction so that they understand their roles and responsibilities and are confident about carrying them out. Staff, pupils, parents and governors feel secure that they can raise any issues or concerns about the safety or welfare of children and know that they will be listened to and taken seriously. This is achieved by maintaining an ethos of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. At our school we are not afraid to challenge each other to keep our children safe.

We all have a safeguarding responsibility and have a duty to refer any safeguarding issues to external agencies that need to be involved.

Educate Against Hate/PREVENT Duty

The PREVENT duty is the duty in the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015 on specifies authorities, in the exercise of their functions, to have due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism.

The government have launched a website aimed at supporting parents in implementing the PREVENT Duty. There are some useful resources on the website including written advice and signposting to other organisations. For more information go to educateagainsthate.com

If you have any worries or questions relating to this and are worried about your child, please contact school, or phone 101 to speak to the Police who have specially trained PREVENT officers.

The NSPCC PANTS :

Talk PANTS helps children understand that their body belongs to them, and they should tell someone they trust if anything makes them feel upset or worried.

From the NSPCC: If you're worried about a child, we're here to provide support and advice to help you. Whatever your concern, you can call the NSPCC Helpline on 0808 800 5000 Monday to Friday 8am – 10pm or 9am – 6pm at the weekends, or email us at any time at help@nspcc.org.uk.

The PANTOSAURUS video below is a catchy way to help children remember the PANTS rule.

Operation Encompass

At Stoke Gabriel we are part of project that runs jointly between schools and Devon and Cornwall Police.

Operation Encompass is the reporting to schools, prior to the start of the next school day, when a child or young person has been exposed to, or involved in, any domestic incident.

Operation Encompass will ensure that a member of the school staff, known as a Key Adult, is trained to allow them to liaise with the police and to use the information that has been shared, in confidence, while ensuring that the school is able to make a provision for possible difficulties experienced by children, or their families, who have been involved in, or exposed to, a domestic abuse incident.

We are keen to offer the best support possible to all our pupils and we believe this will be extremely beneficial for all those involved.
