At Stoke Gabriel Primary School, our core values are: Community, Character, Courage and Creativity.
These four values guide us in all that we do.
Community
“No one man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main.”
John Donne, 1624
Building a sense of community and belonging is intrinsic to our ethos. We want the children to gain an appreciation of the unique community that is the beautiful village of Stoke Gabriel and all it has to offer. We value and encourage qualities such as kindness, gratitude and respect, believing that a successful, inclusive community relies on the children developing empathy for, and learning to collaborate with, others. We recognise that opportunities for celebration, large and small, are important to every member of our community. We welcome and embrace the talents and support of the wider school community including: parents, carers, family members and local people. Within our inclusive community, we promote the fundamental British values of democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance.
Character
“Character is doing the right thing when no one is looking.” J.C. Wells
At Stoke Gabriel we pride ourselves on knowing each and every child. By promoting and emphasising the importance of honesty, loyalty and compassion, we seek to develop the character of each child. Our goal is that every child leaves Stoke Gabriel School, confident in their own talents and able to recognise their own potential. They will become aware of their responsibilities within the school, national and international communities, whilst also becoming a trusted friend who recognises and celebrates the talents of others.
Courage
“Success is not final, failure is not fatal, it is the courage to continue that counts.” Winston Churchill
At Stoke Gabriel Primary School we have the courage to do what we know is right for the children. We give children the courage to accept new challenges, thereby allowing them to develop their resilience in the safe and secure environment we have created. Courage will enable them to persevere and to accept failure as part of learning to overcome obstacles. We expect the children to have the courage to do what they know to be right and to be their own wonderful selves.
Creativity
“Creative people are curious, flexible, persistent and independent with a tremendous spirit of adventure.” Henri Matisse.
Creativity in all forms is valued at Stoke Gabriel Primary School. We are committed to providing a creative, high quality curriculum which provides memorable learning experiences and fosters curiosity, a love of learning and a desire to know more. We encourage the children to use and to value their imagination and recognise the awe and wonder of the world that is around them. We want the children to recognise that creativity can produce solutions to problems and, as such, creativity is a vital tool for life.
