"All the way through his schooling at Stoke Gabriel Primary my son has been nurtured, supported, encouraged and celebrated for his efforts. The consistency of this amazingly high level of teaching hasn't changed or dropped despite the staff changes that are inevitable in the schooling system today. As a parent I couldn't be more grateful to the School and the Academy for the amazing Primary School experience we have been fortunate enough to have had."

Dragonflies

Welcome to Dragonflies

Hello and welcome to the Dragonflies class page!

We are a friendly class who love learning and having fun together. We are curious, creative and we always try our very best to achieve all that we can.

The adults that work with us are:

Mr Somers – Class Teacher

Mrs Wills – Teaching Assistant (mornings)

Mrs Martin- Teaching Assistant (Friday)

Mrs Wills and Mrs Martin works with all of the children to support learning.

 PE

Our PE lessons are every Tuesday with Mr Somers and every Friday with Mr Tanner. Please come to school wearing your PE kits on these two days.

Phonics Bug Reading

It is really important to practice reading every day to become confident with segmenting, blending and to increase our fluency. We ask children to read their phonics bug books at least twice before being changed on a Monday and a Friday.

Homework

Please see below and the MTP document for an additional, optional homework project each half term. You have also been emailed the MTP.

Children will be sent home additional homework in the form of phonics flash cards, spellings and/or tricky words to practice.

We also encourage the use of NumBots for Maths practice at home, and Bug Club, in which children can access the book specific to the unit of phonics they are learning in the classroom.

We welcome the children to bring any learning from home in on a Friday to be shown and celebrated in class.

Accelerated Reader

Here at Stoke Gabriel School we use the Accelerated Reader program to monitor children's independent reading once the children have completed our phonics programme (Phonics Bug).
Accelerated Reader is a computer program that helps teachers manage and monitor children's independent reading and comprehension. Your child selects and reads a book at their pace. When they have finished  the children takes a short quiz to assess their reading and comprehension skills.

Below is a link to the Accelerated Reader website specifically for our school. Your children know their logins and we provide all children who use AR with a bookmark holding all the necessary details.

If you're unsure whether a book from home is on Accelerated Reader then please visit the AR Bookfinder site below to search for yourself. It is not just books from our school library that are available for quizzing!
